(bengal gram with coconut)
Serve 8 people
INGREDIENTS :-
Ghee : 2 tsp
coconut(cut into 1/4 cm. thick 1/2cm square) : 1/4 cup
mustard oil : 5 tsp
whole dry red chillies : 4
bay leaves : 3
cloves : 6
cinnamon : 2 sticks (2 & 1/2 cms each)
green cardamoms : 4
cumin seeds : 1 tsp
ginger chopped : 10 gms
green chillies(slit) : 6
jaggery (crushed) : 15 gms
bengal gram (washed) : 2 cups
turmeric powder : 1 tsp
salt : 3 & 1/2 tsp
water : 3 & 1/4 cups
1.In a pan , heat 1 tsp ghee . add coconut pieces and fry till light brown. remove and keep aside.
2. heat oil in cooker , add red chillies, bay leaves, cloves cinnamon, cardamoms and cumin seeds. stir for a few seconds. add fried coconut and all other ingredients except water and remaining ghee( 1tsp). stir and fry , add water, stir once.
3. close cooker, bring to full pressure on high heat. reduce heat and cook for 3 minutes.
4. remove cooker from heat. allow to cool naturally.
5. open cooker. pour remaining ghee evenly over dal.
SERVE HOT.
